(Update) Man killed, 2 others hurt as speeding bus slams into a van in Tagaytay

(Update) MANILA, Philippines - A man was killed while two others were hurt in the resort city of Tagaytay shortly after Wednesday noon in yet another road accident involving a speeding passenger bus, police said. Superintendent William Segun, chief of the Tagaytay police, said that the still unidentified fatality was on board a Toyota Innova van when it was hit by a San Agustin Liner bus (TYM-830) near Lourdes Church along Aguinaldo Highway in barangay Silang Crossing East at about 1 p.m. The car’s driver was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. The two injured bus passengers are still undergoing treatment, Segun told GMA News.TV by phone. Segun said the two injured victims were identified as Florencia Bayot and Chelsea Joy Alba. An initial investigation report showed that the passenger bus was “traveling at high speed" when it collided with the car (ZLZ-921), he said. The impact caused the van to slam into a pine tree, pinning and instantly killing its driver. The report said that rescuers were having a hard time taking out the body from the damaged van. Segun said that it was the first time a bus collision happened on that stretch of Aguinaldo Highway. The incident is just the latest in a growing number of highway deaths caused by overspeeding buses. On All Saints' Day, Nov. 1, two people on board a sport utility van were crushed to death by a passenger bus that was trying to overtake other vehicles along a highway in Pampanga province. several other passengers of the bus, including a priest, were also killed. Last month, a medical doctor was killed when his car overturned after being struck by a Joanna Jesh bus that was racing with two other buses along EDSA in Quezon City.
