MANILA, Philippines – The Daet town government in Camarines Norte has teamed up with the local church to fight abortion, amid reports that abortionists are plying their trade there again. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said the assurance to go after these abortionists came from Daet Mayor Tito Sarion. "With this development, the local church and the local government of Daet are now working hand-in-hand to stop this immoral and illegal activity perpetrated by known abortionists in town," Daet diocese spokesman Fr. Ernesto Corre said in an article posted on the CBCP website. Corre cited reports reaching the office of Daet Bishop Gilbert Garcera that some abortionists, some of whom were arrested earlier this year, are back in their trade. Garcera has spearheaded a campaign against abortionists actively practicing their trade in the province. "This prompted the local church leadership to call the attention of civil authorities and ask their active participation in the fight and to support this church advocacy," Corre said. Also, Corre said concerned citizens fear a failure by police to pursue cases against those arrested and are now free again while some began their illegal trade anew. "Anti-abortion advocates in the province are looking at the angle on the possibility that there are authorities who are in cahoots with the suspects," Corre said. - GMANews.TV
