Davao rescue teams in place after floods; NDRRMC names fatalities

After devastating flash floods that killed at least 25 people, Davao City officials have put in place rescue teams in possible flood-prone areas there. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said in a radio interview Thursday the rescue teams kept watch over the affected villages Wednesday night. "Kagabi umulan pero naka-standby ang aming rescue. Naka-standby sila in case may problema but buti naman walang nangyari," she said in an interview on dzBB radio. She also said the city government is continuously monitoring nearby rivers and mountains to see if they may bring floods to the city. Duterte added that the city government is not letting down its guard after Tuesday night's heavy rain that caused the Pangi River to overflow.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also warned on Thursday of more rains over Mindanao due to an inter-tropical convergence zone. "Sabi ng PAGASA, ang buhos ng malakas na ulan nandoon lang sa lugar na yan. Umulan sa ibang lugar pero mabilis humupa tapos sa area dito tuluy-tuloy. Ito ang thunderstorm sa ITCZ," Duterte said.
