11 areas under Storm Signal No. 2 as 'Sendong' approaches

At least 11 areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 2 while 17 more were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 as tropical storm "Sendong" (international code name Washi) maintained its strength Thursday night.
In its 11 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said "Sendong" was estimated at 430 km east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 10 p.m.
PAGASA said "Sendong" packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph; and is forecast to move west-northwest at 30 kph.
"Sendong" is expected to be at 100 km east-southeast of Dumaguete City by Friday evening and 100 km east-northeast of Puerto Princesa City by Saturday evening.
By Sunday evening, it is expected to be at 390 km west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City.

PAGASA reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals to be alert against
possible flash floods and landslides.
It reminded those living in coastal areas to be alert against big waves or storm surges generated by "Sendong."
Also, it estimated the amount of rainfall at 10 to 25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 400-km diameter of "Sendong." — ELR, GMA News
