8 killed as truck crashes into houses in Antipolo

At least eight people were reported killed while an undetermined number were injured after a truck slammed into a row of houses along Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City Thursday.   Police investigators are verifying information the truck's brakes failed before it rammed the houses, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.   "Galing Antipolo ang truck tapos nawalan ng preno. Initially nakuha namin walo ang patay, dalawa ang sugatan,"  the report quoted a witness as saying.   Several other people – some of them children – were pinned under the truck, even as the report said many were brought to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center. The report said the incident occurred at a portion of the Sumulong Highway in Mambugan village in Antipolo. An initial investigation showed some of the structures damaged by the incident included a carinderia (eatery) and a store.   The incident also snarled traffic in the area, the report said. — LBG, GMA News
