NDRRMC: 4 'missing' people survive ComVal landslide

At least four people initially reported missing in last week's landslide that buried a gold panning area in Compostela Valley were found alive, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday.
 
In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said at least 38 people remain missing in the wake of the Jan. 5 incident at Napnapan village in Pantukan town.
 
The NDRRMC identified the four as:
  1. Santos Saraum Sr., 45
  2. Santos Saraum Jr., 18
  3. "Kambal," 21
  4. Santos Abainza III, 16
All four were from Diat in Napnapan village in Pantukan town, the NDRRMC said.
 
On the other hand, three more fatalities were identified, including:
  1. Jennivie Baumbad, 19, Trento, Agusan del Sur
  2. Regilyn Evangelio, 25, Tagum City
  3. Michael Noquira, 22, General Santos City
The NDRRMC said the death toll remained at 30 as of 6 a.m. Monday, with 16 injured and 38 still missing.
 
Earlier Monday, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle urged devotees of the Black Nazarene to offer prayers for the landslide victims and those of tropical storm "Sendong" (Washi). 
 
Since 2003, more than 125 people have died in landslides in Compostela Valley. –KG, GMA News
