NDRRMC: Visayas quake death toll up to 41

The death toll from the magnitude-6.9 quake that devastated Negros rose to 41 as of Saturday night, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 8 p.m. Saturday update, the NDRRMC also said the number of people deemed missing due to the quake also went down to 67. Among the latest fatalities, both from Negros Oriental province, were:
- Arthur Mahinay, Brgy. Planas, Guihulngan City - Teresita Pocong, Brgy. Solonggon, La Libertad
It added that of the 41 confirmed fatalities, 17 were from Guihulngan City; eight from La Libertad; eight from Jimalalud; three from Tayasan; two each from Manjuyod and Ayungon; and one from Bindoy. On the other hand, the 67 missing included 28 from Guilhulngan and 39 from La Libertad. The NDRRMC said the quake had affected 30,174 families or 151,540 people in 121 villages in eight towns and two cities in two provinces. Of these, 8,400 families or 41,760 people are being served in 71 evacuation centers. Damage to roads, bridges The NDRRMC estimated the damage to roads and bridges at P365.359 million. Two bridges in Negros Oriental – one each in La Libertad and Jimalalud – remain impassable. One road section along Dumaguete North Road remained inaccessible. At least 5,653 houses were destroyed while 5,002 were damaged. As of Friday, water and power had been restored in Ayungon and Tayasan in Negros Oriental. — LBG, GMA News More Videos
