PNP suspends gun privileges in Masbate for six days
Gun-carrying privileges have been suspended for six days in Masbate to ensure the peaceful observance of the Rodeo Masbateño festival in the province. Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome has ordered the temporary suspension of all permits to carry firearms outside residences in the province from April 9 to 14. Bartolome issued the directive “to keep [the festival] free from any firearms-related incident.” The PNP chief added that only police officers, soldiers, and other law enforcement officials on duty and in their prescribed uniforms will be exempted from the ban. PNP Bicol Region Director Chief Supt. Jose Arne de los Santos has already been directed to conduct checkpoint operations to ensure the strict implementation of the ban, according to Bartolome. The Rodeo Masbateño is an annual festival in Masbate, considered to be the “Cattle Country of the Philippines,” showcasing locals’ skills in handling livestock. It features events such as street dancing, cattle wrestling and bull riding. — LBG, GMA News
