A festive atmosphere prevailed over Samal town in Bataan, hometown of "American Idol" finalist Jessica Sanchez, as the finale of the reality-based talent search began to air Thursday morning.

Residents supporting Sanchez gathered to watch the televised finale to see if she would emerge this season's ultimate winner, radio dzBB reported.

Many of them offered prayers for the 16-year-old Filipino-American-Mexican belter to win the contest, the report added.

The report said that when the finale started airing, many residents waved Philippine flags and danced to music.

They also said it was an honor for Sanchez to be in the top two of this year's batch of contestants.

Also, the residents said they would celebrate on Thursday, whether or not Sanchez won or lost.
