Coast Guard: 920 stranded due to 'Ambo'; 9 passengers rescued


At least 920 passengers have been stranded in Bicol due to big waves, heavy rain and strong winds brought by Tropical Storm Ambo (Mawar), the Philippine Coast Guard said Saturday. The Coast Guard said that as of 12:44 p.m., most of the stranded were in Tabaco Port in Albay, while the others were stranded in Camarines Sur and Catanduanes. It said that of the 920:

- 775 passengers were in Tabaco Port (Albay) - 30 in Sabang Port, 24 in Pasacao Port, 32 in Tamban Port and 29 in Guijalo Port in Camarines Sur - 30 in San Andres Port in Catanduanes
Also stranded were 23 trucks, 10 cars, six passenger buses, five vessels, and 10 motor bancas. The Coast Guard said its units in the area remain on heightened alert and are continuously monitoring developments. Nine passengers rescued Meanwhile, the Coast Guard Bulan detachment and K-9 Bicol rescued nine passengers of a motor banca battered by big waves 200 yards off Bulan, Sorsogon at about 6:50 a.m. Friday. It said the nine included six adults and three children. It identified them as:
- Boat captain Mario Delos Santos, 45 - Leonor delos Santos, 46 - Jennifer delos Santos, 16 - John Michael delos Santos, 8 - Hanna Roylo, 14 - Maila Catamora, 17 - Annalou Catamora, 18 - Mark Anthony Catamora, 9 - Ronalyn Escabel, 17
