Phivolcs: Magnitude-5.3 quake jolts Zambales

A magnitude-5.3 quake jolted the Zambales area before dawn Sunday, even as there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 4:12 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its initial bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was traced to 85 km southwest of Iba town in Zambales. Phivolcs did not immediately cite specific areas where the quake was felt, adding it did not expect damage or aftershocks. Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 4.9, and estimated the epicenter at:

- 34km west of San Nicolas, Zambales - 36km west-southwest of San Narciso, Zambales - 37km west-southwest of San Felipe, Zambales - 41km west of San Antonio, Zambales - 134 km west-northwest of Manila
