With 114 barangays flooded, Bataan now under state of calamity
Governor Enrique Garcia has placed the province of Bataan under a state of calamity Tuesday following continuous rain and rising floodwaters.
A report on GMA News TV's Balita Pilipinas said 114 barangays are underwater. MacArthur Highway is also neck-deep in floodwaters and impassable, the same report said. According to Bataan Provincial Police Spokesperson Senior Inspector Dennis Orbita, the volume of rain that fell on the province from 3 p.m. to Monday midnight was 391.2 mm. From 1a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, accumulated rainfall has reached 485.9 mm, significantly higher than the amount of rainfall that fell on Metro Manila during Tropical Storm Ondoy in September 2009.
The towns of Hermosa, Dinalupian, Pilar, and Orion are in particularly deep waters, the Balita Pilipinas report said. — Patricia Denise Chiu/RSJ/HS, GMA News
