13 Mindanao cops suspected of cheating in PNP entrance test relieved from posts
At least thirteen policemen in Western Mindanao were relieved from their posts after they were suspected of cheating in the Philippine National Police (PNP) entrance test in April last year. According to a report on GMA News TV’s "News To Go" program on Tuesday, an investigation of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) revealed that even though the 13 policemen took the entrance test in various centers, they all had the same mistakes. The news report said the exam results of the 13 policemen will be voided. The Napolcom said it will determine if the leakage came from their own office, adding that the exams in April and October of this year will also be reviewed.
The relieved officers from Region IX alleged to have cheated are all in the rank of PO1: Djona Ansing Generosa, Felix Josephius Pascual, Arian Lloyd Cayacap Luchana, April Rose Alvendar Denopol, Grege Montallana Lagare, Ralph Shemuel Daya Supnet, Daniel Audy II Dayap Tapis, Al-Najib Hadjula Ujaji, Fermuzaina Umda, Joel Espina Aliser, Jilhani Mohaimen Dalongenes, Nohasim Yusop Sakilin, Raymond Gravino Sumonglay. According to the analysis of the exam cited in the report, at least 387 examinees could possibly have cheated the test. “Karamihan niyan ay sa ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), sa Regions IX and X,” Napolcom vice chairman Eduardo Escueta said.
“Under the principles of statistics, a similarity of 20 percent only would indicate that there is cheating,” he also said, acknowledging as well that in the case of the 2011 exam, the rate of similar wrong answers was much higher than 20 percent.
Escueta said Napolcom has already received various forms of communication from possible cheaters claiming innocence, and that his office has already advised them to formalize their statements.
“Mayroong mga nagpadala ng sulat sa amin, may mga tumawag na pinapaliwanag na hindi sila sangkot, subalit ang sabi namin, magbigay kayo ng formal na paliwanag,” Escueta said.
“So far, doon sa mga nagreklamong iyon, wala pa naman na mismong pumunta rito para magbigay ng formal na paliwanag,” he continued.
The PNP, meanwhile, said it will conduct a separate investigation on the matter.
“Automatic ongoing naman iyon, ano. Kung babalikan nga natin, the (Napolcom) furnished us a copy or release ng mga PO1s na pinaniniwalaan nilang nangopya o nandaya,” PNP spokesperson Generoso Cerbo said. - Gian C. Geronimo, VVP, GMA News
