Cops seize illegal fireworks in Laguna, Cavite raids

Police seized illegal fireworks in separate raids in residential areas in Laguna and Cavite provinces on Thursday.

At least one person was arrested in a raid on a house in a subdivision in San Pedro in Laguna, according to a report on GMA News' "Saksi."

Seized from the house were boxes of fireworks including the dangerous Goodbye Earth, bawang, and Diablo. Even the piccolo was renamed Pacquiao Marquez.

"Maawa na kayo sa akin, may sakit ako sa puso," said caretaker Jeffrey Ambaye, who was arrested after he failed to show police a permit for keeping the firecrackers in the house.

In Cavite, police raided a group of houses that served as a firecracker factory in a residential area in Imus City.

Imus police head Superintendent Red Maranan said they managed to seize illegal firecrackers and ingredients such as gunpowder during the raid.

"Wala itong permit at ito nasa gitna ng residential area kaya napakadelikado nito," Maranan said in an interview on dzBB radio.

He said they raided "four to five" houses in Barangay Bucandala 3 in Imus City.

Among the items they found in the houses were huge fountains, triangles and assorted firecrackers, as well as containers of gunpowder.

"May pagawaan at finished products," he said.

He did not immediately say if arrests were made.
