NDRRMC: 'Quinta' death toll rises to 12, damage to agriculture over P146M
The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Quinta (international name: Wukong) rose to 12 even as the damage it caused to agriculture was estimated at P146.128 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday. In its 6:00 a.m. update, the NDRRMC identified the latest fatality as Aguido Tanael, 77, a victim of drowning. The NDRRMC said Tanael was found dead near the shoreline between Barangays Buenavista and Western Poblacion in Baras, Catanduanes. It also said Raulio dela Cruz, 24, was found injured in North Borongan City in Eastern Samar. The NDRRMC said at least two people have been injured in Quinta's wake. The NDRRMC said Quinta affected 43,612 families or 201,888 people in 433 villages in 53 towns and six cities in nine provinces. Of these, 13,861 families or 72,697 people are staying in 141 evacuation centers. Damage The NDRRMC estimated the damage to agriculture at P146,128,853.08. It also said 1,284 houses were destroyed while 2,931 were damaged. At least three roads and two bridges in Bicol and Western Visayas remained impassable, it added. - VVP, GMA News
