At least 106 people welcomed the New Year in detention in Davao City, after they were caught trying to use fireworks to celebrate the arrival of 2013.

They consisted of 49 adults and 57 minors, who were arrested for violating a city ordinance banning firecrackers, radio dzBB's Davao affiliate Raul Tolibas reported.

Davao City police chief Senior Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa was quoted in the report as saying many of those arrested said they bought the firecrackers from Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.

Otherwise, the report said the New Year revelry was relatively peaceful in Davao City, with residents finding other ways of making noise to ring in 2013.

Instead of firecrackers, residents honked car horns, switched on their videokes, and held street discos where they danced to hit tunes like "Gangnam Style."

Cebu

The New Year's celebration was also relatively peaceful in Cebu, dzBB's Cebu affiliate Jasmine Baylosis reported.

No one was initially reported hurt in the revelry in Cebu, the report added.
