NDRRMC: Damage from flash floods in Mindanao goes over P111M

The damage from flash floods that hit parts of Mindanao in recent weeks went up to P111.771 million as of Friday afternoon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said. In its 5:00 p.m. update, the NDRRMC also said more than 500,000 people have now been affected by the flash floods, which started Jan. 15 when the tail-end of a cold front affected Mindanao. As of Friday, it said the damage to property amounted to P111,771,418, including:

  • P92,370,000 in infrastructure,
  • P19,031,418 in agriculture, and
  • P370,000 in private property.
The NDRRMC said the floods affected 113,398 families or 507,769 people in 36 towns in nine provinces Of these, 40,942 families or 172,832 people are staying in 114 evacuation centers. The death toll remained at nine, with eight hurt and three still missing. However, the NDRRMC also noted power supply has been restored in the affected areas. - VVP, GMA News
