Tornado wrecks 200 homes, affects 1000 people in Paniqui, Tarlac
At least 1000 people were affected while more than 200 homes were wrecked after a tornado barreled through five villages in Tarlac province Friday, according to a television report Monday.
In a report that aired on GMA News' Unang Balita Monday, reporter Vonne Aquino, quoting the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said affected residents of Paniqui town in Tarlac province are now asking for assistance after a tornado destroyed their homes.
In a report posted on its website Sunday, the NDRRMC said the tornado occurred at 3 p.m. in Paniqui town and affected Ventinilla, Cabayaoasan, Tablang, Salumangue, and Ncamarinanan villages.
The report said the tornado affected 254 families or 1095 people, including 169 families (753 people) in Ventinilla, 5 families (14 people) in Cabayaoasan, 13 families (44 people) in Tablang, 58 families (248 people) in Salumangue, and 9 families (36 people) in Ncamarinanan.
While 205 homes were damaged, 49 were totally destroyed, according to the report.
Of the 49 houses destroyed by the tornado, 24 were in Ventinilla, 2 in Cabayaosan, 2 in Tablang, 11 in Salumangue, and 7 in Ncamarinanan. Of the 205 homes damaged, 142 were in Ventinilla, 3 in Cabayaoasan, 11 in Tablang, 47 in Salumangue, and 2 in Ncamarinanan.
The local government has extended P38,100 worth of assistance to affected people and families, it added.
Disaster management officials in Tarlac are on alert status and closely monitoring the situation, the NDRRMC said.
It added they are also conducting damage and needs assessment in the affected areas. —Amanda Fernandez/KG, GMA News
