The widow of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, lawyer Leni Robredo, has filed two disqualification cases against Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Villafuerte and his wife, Nelly, for alleged vote-buying.
On Thursday, Mrs. Robredo filed a disqualification case against the Villafuertes with the Prosecutor's Office in Naga City. A similiar case was filed with the Commission on Elections office in Camarines Sur on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Robredo is seeking the congressional post in Camarines Sur's third district. Villafuerte is running for governor while his wife is seeking the congressional post against Mrs. Robredo. Sought for comment, Cong. Villafuerte would not answer GMA News Online repeated phone calls.
Apart from three witnesses, Pancho Alvarez, a volunteer on Robredo’s campaign, said their camp has a video showing people leaving the Villafuerte’s home with brown envelopes allegedly containing cash.
“May mga taong lumalabas with envelopes na may laman na pera. They get the money and throw the envelope,” Alvarez told GMA News Online on Friday, adding that the incident allegedly happened at the Villafuerte residence in Brgy. Balatas along Magsaysay Ave. in Naga City.
“Sa gabi, may mga jeep na nagbibigay ng libreng sakay papunta sa house nila tapos ‘yung iba siguro kusa na lang pumupunta sa bahay nila [Villafuerte]… dun pa lang, you know some stuff are going on,” Alvarez said.
Each voter can receive at least P300, Alvarez claimed. — RSJ, GMA News
