Aquino to inspect Laguindingan Int'l Airport in Misamis Oriental
President Benigno Aquino III will head for Misamis Oriental on Tuesday to conduct a final inspection of the Laguindingan International Airport, the Department of Transportation and Communications said Monday.
In a media advisory, the DOTC said Aquino will also unveil a marker at the airport, which is being touted as a gateway to Northern Mindanao.
The DOTC said Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya will accompany Aquino in the final inspection and marker unveiling at 9 a.m. of June 11.
Laguindingan Airport's website described the facility as state-of-the-art, and will cater to the increasing demand of air passengers and cargo.
Once completed, it is "expected to boost the economic activities of the Cagayan-Iligan Corridor (CIC), and the Northern Mindanao Region".
"The Laguindingan Int’l Airport will primarily replace the existing Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro, but is also expected to replace Balo-i Airport in in Ditucalan, Lanao del Norte," the airport's website added.
It is also a flagship project of the Cagayan de Oro-Iligan Corridor special development project, which covers Iligan and Cagayan de Oro Cities, as well as five coastal towns in Lanao del Norte and the 14 towns of Misamis Oriental’s first congressional district.
