A jail warden in Cebu province was shot dead by a subordinate on Friday afternoon, allegedly after rejecting a request for a leave of absence.

Radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate Orchids Lapincao said Toledo City Jail warden Inspector Anacleto Dosaran died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Also shot and in critical condition was the jail administrative chief, identified as Jail Officer 2 Maria Milamid Abella.

A report on Visayas-based Bombo Radyo said the suspect, Jail Officer 3 Donald Ramas, turned himself in to police after the shooting.

The initial investigation showed that the incident occurred at 1:45 p.m. when Ramas got mad after Dosaran rejected his request for a leave of absence.

Ramas had wanted to file a leave of absence for schooling. When Dosaran rejected his request, a verbal confrontation ensued.

After the incident, Ramas was placed under the custody of the Toledo City police for interrogation, the Bombo Radyo report said. - VVP, GMA News
