PNP: 6 tourists bound for Underground River rescued from capsized boat

Six tourists, two of them children, were rescued after a boat they were riding en route to the world-famous Underground River in Palawan capsized Wednesday, the Philippine National Police said Thursday.

The PNP tourist police said the motor banca "Boat No. 41" encountered rough seas off the coast of Sitio Sabang in Brgy. Cabayugan in Puerto Prinsesa City.

Rescued were:

Neil Aguilar Galang, 43
Maria Carmen Valencia Galang, 43
Eldrick Valencia Galang, 13
Neil Christian Valencia Galang, 12
tour guide Dennis Salas Atrero, 39

"Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident," the PNP said.

It said the Tourist Assistance Center at the Sabang Police Community Precinct Tourist Police coordinated medical personnel and the Philippine Coast Guard to help the victims.

The PNP launched the Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection TOPCOP in cooperation with the with the Department of Tourism to ensure the tourists' safety. — LBG, GMA News
