(Updated 3:35 a.m., 3 September 2013) A huge fire engulfed a section of the NCCC shopping center in Puerto Princesa city, residents reported late Monday.
City fire trucks have arrived but are having difficulty containing the blaze, which appears to have started at the top floor, said Joselito Arzaga, an eyewitness at the scene.
The Bureau of Fire Protection in Puerto Princesa City raised a general alarm on the NCCC fire at 11:50 p.m. Monday night.
The fire was declared put out at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Located along Lacao street in the city proper, NCCC houses a sprawling grocery on the ground floor and dry goods on the second and third floors.
Before the Robinsons mall opened in Puerto Princesa last year, NCCC was the biggest department store in the capital city of Palawan.
Arzaga said the fourth floor is currently under construction, an addition to the existing structure. The store is part of a retail chain based in Davao City. — Yasmin Arquiza/DVM, GMA News
