Typhoon Santi death toll rises to 14 – NDRRMC


The death toll from Typhoon Santi rose to 14 as of Monday evening, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported. In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatality was Eugene Sison, 34, of Roxas in Oriental Mindoro province. Sison had gone fishing, but failed to return home. He was initially reported missing. His body was eventually recovered in Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro last Sunday. (http://www.ndrrmc.gov.ph/attachments/article/1103/Binder1.pdf). Meanwhile, 32 were injured while six remain missing, including three fishermen from Viga, Catanduanes. The NDRRMC said Santi affected 155,190 families or 749,656 people in 682 villages in 67 towns and seven cities in 13 provinces. Of these, 1,591 families or 6,561 people are sheltered in 42 evacuation centers. Damage to property in Pangasinan, Aurora, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac was estimated at P2,943,372,885. — DVM, GMA News
