Cebu hospitals evacuate patients, camp out in open spaces
Hospitals in Cebu city were forced to evacuate their patients due to the magnitude-7.2 earthquake Tuesday. A patient died while being brought out of the hospital, a GMA News "24 Oras" report said.
Hospital personnel tended to their patients on the streets, and assessed incoming patients with injuries sustained during the earthquake.
Patients at the St. Jude General Hospital were treated around the hospital complex, including a woman named Jennibel who, yesterday, gave birth via cesarean section.
Medical personnel there had to sort their equipment and medicines on the asphalt pavement just outside the hospital building.
"Relax lang naman ako. Pero nagtakbuhan kami palabas," said Ramon Rivera, a patient.
At least 200 families fled their homes in Tagbilaran City, Bohol and evacuated to the Carlos Garcia Park due to the same earthquake.
"Pumunta kami dito kasi sabi nila may tsunami. Pumunta kami dito kasi mataas dito," said Daly Bularon, who escaped her home with her family intact.
An old woman held on to a small image of the Virgin Mary, and claimed the image saved her life. Mercy May Aniata, another evacuee, also took to praying for the safety of her children.
"Pamproteksyon po. Para magdasal na 'di na umulit yung malakas na lindol," said Aniata. — RT/ELR, GMA News
