Bohol quake death toll up to 222, damage continues to mount

The death toll from the magnitude-7.2 quake that devastated Central Visayas last Oct. 15 continued to rise, reaching 222 as of Wednesday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
 
In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatalities were from Sevilla and Loon towns in Bohol province.
 
At least 797 were reported injured, 692 of them from Bohol, while eight are still missing, the NDRRMC added.
 
The NDRRMC also said that as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, 3,066 aftershocks had been recorded, of which 84 were felt.
 
It said the quake has so far affected 671,103 families or 3,221,248 people in 1,527 villages in 60 towns and six cities in six provinces.
 
Of these, 17,763 families or 89,291 people are staying in 376 evacuation centers.
 
At least 12,238 houses had been destroyed while 53,694 were damaged. —KG, GMA News
