NDRRMC: Vinta death toll and damage up, Cagayan under state of calamity

The death toll from Typhoon Vinta (Krosa) rose to four while the damage to property went up to P276.638 million as of Wednesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC also said Cagayan province was placed under a state of calamity in the wake of the typhoon.

According to the NDRRMC, the most recent fatality was identified as Reynante Binala, 41, of Batac City in Ilocos Norte.

Binala drowned last Oct. 31 and his body was found at Garasgas River, it said.

The NDRRMC also said Vinta affected 55,369 families or 265,769 people in 688 villages in 46 towns and one city in five provinces.

Of these, 14,655 families or 70,658 people were displaced.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, 3,837 houses were destroyed while 32,745 were damaged.

Damage was estimated at P276,638,256.63, including P3,714,280 in infrastructure and P272,923,976.63 in agriculture. — VC, GMA News
