2 dead, 5 missing as Yolanda causes ship to list, run aground off Eastern Samar 


Two crewmembers of a cargo vessel were killed while a search is on for five others after the vessel listed off Eastern Samar during harsh weather conditions from super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last weekend, the Philippine Coast Guard said Tuesday.
 
Citing belated reports, the Coast Guard said the MV Andrea Princess was taking shelter in the vicinity of Ando Island in Borongan, Eastern Samar when rough sea conditions battered it and caused it to list [to lean to the side] and run aground.
 
Killed in the incident were Chief Mate Romulo Albios, 37; and crane operator Alexander Stallo, 35.
 
Fifteen other crewmembers were rescued by the Coast Guard and were rushed to the nearest provincial hospital.
 
The Coast Guard identified the missing as:

  • Reuben Jason Quesada, oiler, 29
  • an unnamed 28-year-old   
 
Rescued were:

  • Ever Tamoy, chief cook, 64

Yolanda tore through parts of Visayas and southern Luzon last Nov. 9 before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility last Saturday. Nearly  2,000 people have been reported killed as of Monday evening. — RSJ, GMA News
