Cop killed, 3 others hurt in suspected NPA attack in Bukidnon
(Updated 3:47 p.m.) A police officer was killed while three others were wounded after suspected New People's Army rebels attacked a police station in Bukidnon province Thursday morning.
Citing initial information, Police Chief Superintendent Catalino Rodriguez, Police Regional Office 10 regional director, said around 100 armed insurgents attacked the Kibawe police station at around 4 a.m.
After the brief firefight, the suspects immediately fled towards Barangay Tumaras in Kibawe town in Bukidnon on board eight private vehicles, including six Toyota Hilux, a Mitsubishi Strada pick-up and a Toyota Grandia van, said Rodriguez.
The lone fatality was identified as SPO3 Rodelfin Alonzo Sr., while those wounded were PO2 Johnrey Mañigo, PO2 Elizer Lacoste, and PO3 Jona Roban, he said.
Meanwhile, pursuit operations are ongoing against the rebels, said Chief Inspector Rene Berico, public information officer of the Kibawe police station.
But Rodriguez said that upon reaching Sitio Panamtapan in Barangay Midkawayan in Damuluy town in Bukidnon, they were hit by an improvised explosive device believed planted by the fleeing rebels.
