Three people were reported killed after a van hit a truck parked along the North Luzon Expressway in Bulacan province Tuesday.

The accident occurred at the NLEX's emergency bay in Sta. Rita in Bulacan, radio dzBB reported.

But a police report said the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. along the southbound lane of the NLEX in Barangay Ligas in Malolos City in Bulacan.

The fatalities were identified in the report as:

  • Cynthia Medina, 49, of Urdaneta, Pangasinan;
  • Consuelo Repolyo, 45, of Asingan, Pangasinan; and
  • Albert Manalili, 40, of Tarlac
All were passengers of the Mitsubishi van driven by Juanito Cabatic, 50, that slammed into a Mitsubishi Fuso truck parked along the highway.

Another van passenger, Esmeralda Marcelo, 43, of San Manuel, Pangasinan, was seriously hurt, the police report said.

The truck's lone passenger was its driver, identified in the report as Eric Caliwag.

An initial investigation showed that while the truck was stationary, it was bumped at the rear by the van.

The van driver has since been taken to the Malolos traffic base for proper disposition and filing of appropriate case. — RSJ, GMA News
