4 killed as car smashes into truck in Cavite

Four people were killed Friday in a head-on collision between a car and a truck along Emilio Aguinaldo Highway in Dasmariñas, Cavite, a report on GMA News' “24-Oras” said.

The four victims—Lowie Alcaraz, Rogelio Santos Jr., Armando San Pedro and driver Joan Toledo—were dead on the spot, the report said.

Dasmariñas disaster management officer Alberto Nieto said the accident occurred after the car swerved into the opposite lane.

“Head on collision yung nangyari,” Nieto said. “Yung kotse ang pumunta sa lane ng truck.”

According to witnesses, the car was southbound while the truck was northbound.

The front part of the truck was heavily damaged, while the car was totalled. Rescuers had to remove the hood of the car in order to retrieve the bodies, the report said.

Meanwhile, Rico Andes, the truck's driver, was unhurt although his assistant was brought to a hospital due to minor injuries.

“Masyadong mabilis yung takbo ng kotse. Bigla ko na lang napansin yung kotse niya umiikot. Tumama doon sa side ng gulong ko sa gawing kanan,” Andes recalled.

He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and damage to property, the “24 Oras” said. — Andrei Medina/KBK, GMA News
