NDRRMC: 68 families evacuated in wake of floods in Davao Norte

At least 68 families or 344 people were evacuated from their homes after floods hit nine villages in Tagum City in Davao del Norte on Maundy Thursday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the floods occurred at about 8:10 p.m. Thursday, following torrential rain that lasted four hours.

In its 8 p.m. update Friday, the NDRRMC said the affected residents were brought to the Pilot Central Elementary School, even as no one was reported killed or injured.

City disaster management teams conducted the rescue operations while the disaster management teams from Davao del Norte, Panabo and Kapalong augmented the evacuation and rescue operations.

Social welfare teams distributed food packs to the evacuees.

The NDRRMC said the floods affected nine villages in Tagum City, including Magugpo Poblacion, Magugpo West, Magugpo South, Magugpo East, Magugpo North, Mankilam, San Miguel, Apokon, and Visayan. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
