(Updated 10:39 a.m.) National Bureau of Investigation operatives raided in Iloilo province early Thursday a warehouse suspected of being used for repacking rice of the National Food Authority.

An initial report by RGMA's Melanie Ferrer on dzBB radio indicated the NBI found some 1,000 sacks containing suspected NFA rice in the warehouse in Leganes town.

GMA Iloilo's Joecel Huesca, in a separate report, said the warehouse at Barangay Napnud yielded at least 2,000 sacks of rice.

NBI agents are verifying information the owner of the warehouse is supposedly a father of a youth council president.

They are also analyzing the statement given by a truck driver at the warehouse.

Initial investigation showed the agents found rice in white sacks in the warehouse, as well as empty NFA sacks at the back of the warehouse.

NBI agents suspect the NFA sacks may have been emptied and their contents transferred to the white sacks, so the rice can be sold at a higher price. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
