Bush fire affected at least 5,000 households in Rapu-Rapu town in Albay province on Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday.

In its report, the NDRRMC said the fire started at about 8 a.m. Sunday, and may have stemmed from a kaingin (slash-and-burn farming).

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, it said the fire had affected 6,000 hectares.

The fire affected some 5,000 households in Barangays Poblacion, Morocborocan, Sitio Acal, Mananao, Guadalupe, and Buenavista.

It also affected Sitio Minto in San Ramon Batan Island, the NDRRMC said.

The fire affected as well the water system and upland crops and coconuts, it added.

No one was initially reported killed or injured in the fire. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
