Police suspect foul play in Tarlac City fire that killed woman, baby

Police have yet to discount foul play in a house fire that killed a 27-year-old woman and her year-old daughter in Tarlac City last Tuesday

The fire occurred at 1:30 a.m. in the house of Jasmine Barrios in Barangay Matatalaib in Tarlac City, GMA Dagupan reported on Friday.

But police are looking into possible foul play in the fire, citing initial medico-legal findings showing the victims bore stab wounds.

"(N)ag-come up yung information na sinaksak muna yung biktima bago sunugin yung bahay," Tarlac City police head Superintendent Felix Verbo Jr. said.

Acting city fire marshal Senior Inspector Jimmy Suba said the fire had already burned 80 percent of the victims' house by the time firefighters arrived.

Suba said their initial findings indicated the electrical wirings in the house were substandard, and there were signs the victims used a jumper or illegal electric connection.

The victims' remains were brought to their home province of Bicol, the report said. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
