An inmate of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center found himself in hot water after he was caught bringing in "torta," a local delicacy literally packed with methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
Two small packs of shabu were found inside the pastry which were placed inside a plastic bag brought in by inmate Norlyn Suico, 40, GMA Cebu's Alan Domingo and Greggy Magdadaro reported Thursday.
Suico was confined to an isolation cell following the discovery, the report said.
But Suico, who had come from a hearing in Argao town in Cebu, insisted he did not know anything about the drugs, saying someone just handed them over to him.
"Kung alam ko lang bakit ko dadagdagan ang kaso ko na alam kong mabigat na," he said.
"Torta de Argao" is a popular delicacy from Argao town in Cebu.
The incident prompted the CPDRC's officials to investigate whether some inmates are being used as couriers to similarly smuggle drugs into the facility. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
