1 killed, 2 hurt in tricycle-motorcycle accident in La Union

A woman was killed while her husband and child were injured after the motorcycle they were riding figured in an accident with a tricycle in La Union province this week.

 

The accident occurred in Barangay Quinavite in Bauang town in La Union, according to a report by GMA Ilocos.

 

Killed was Gloria Gaerlan, who was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Her husband Bong-bong and two-year-old child were injured.

 

An initial police investigation showed the Gaerlan family was returning home to Bacnotan when a tricycle sideswiped their motorcycle. They were thrown from the motorcycle.

 

The accident prompted police to remind the public to be careful in overtaking.

 

For his part, Bauang OIC police head Chief Inspector Benjamin Diagan Jr. reminded motorcycle riders to wear protective helmets and not overtake on the right shoulder of the road, saying this is where many accidents occur. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
