Mandatory evacuation for 12k families in Mayon danger zone starts
(Updated 10:40 a.m.) Some 12,000 families living in the danger zone around restive Mayon Volcano in Albay may be included in mandatory evacuation efforts ordered after state volcanologists raised the alert level there to "3" Monday night.
At least 20 families or 100 people were evacuated from the danger zone around Mayon Volcano in Guinobatan town in Albay province Monday night.
The evacuees were brought to designated centers via vehicles of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, GMA News stringer Michael Jaucian reported.
Monday night's evacuees were staying in the 6-km permanent danger zone around Mayon.
Albay Governor Jose Salceda also said evacuation centers have been readied in Legazpi City and Santo Domingo towns, according to a report Tuesday on GMA News TV's "News TV Live."
Salceda earlier told GMA News' "Unang Hirit" that there will be no voluntary evacuation in the case of the families in the danger zone.
"Wala nang voluntary evacuation; kapag nasa danger ka sa pagputok ng Bulkang Mayon kailangan mong lumikas," he said.

On Monday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the alert level at Mayon to "3" after noting increased activity there.
Alert Level 3 means Mayon "is exhibiting relatively high unrest and that magma is at the crater and that hazardous eruption is possible within weeks."
Forced evacuation
A compulsory or assisted evacuation has been implemented in the 6- to 8-km extended danger zone or buffer zone, Salceda said.
