Ilocos Norte was placed under a state of calamity in the wake of bad weather conditions brought by Tropical Storm Mario.

The province's officials hope to facilitate rehabilitation and repair of facilities damaged by Mario, GMA News' Hadji Rieta reported.

GMA Ilocos added the provincial board approved the state of calamity after noting damages amounting to at least P11 million.

A separate report on GMA News TV's "News TV Live" Saturday afternoon said heavy rain continued to fall over the Ilocos area.

Mario caused damage in much of Luzon by combining with the Southwest Monsoon to bring heavy rain and floods. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
