Pedicab driver arrested for allegedly raping 12-year-old girl in Cebu

A pedicab driver was arrested in Cebu City for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl who was sleeping on the street.

 

The girl sought help from village officials of Barangay Basak San Nicolas, according to a report by GMA Cebu's Chona Carreon.

 

She said she and other children were sleeping on the street when the suspect, initially identified as Perfecto Fernandez, 48, approached her.

 

Fernandez allegedly touched her private parts, causing her to awaken.

 

"Natutulog ako, nagising na lang ako dahil ginalaw na niya ako," the girl said.

 

But Fernandez denied the allegations, saying he merely lay down beside the children to sleep.

 

"Hindi ko siya hinawakan at hindi ko siya hahawakan dahil marami akong kasintahan," he said.

 

Despite his denials, Fernandez may face rape charges while the girl has been placed under the custody of the police's Women's Desk. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
