Whirlwind destroys 3 houses, causes 21-hr brownout in Bukidnon
A whirlwind destroyed three houses and caused a 21-hour power outage in Valencia City in Bukidnon last Tuesday, a Mindanao news site reported late Thursday.
Some 33 families were affected by the whirlwind after it also damaged 31 houses, MindaNews quoted the Valencia City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as saying.
The report noted “very strong winds” that caused trees to collapse and destroyed houses in Barangays Dabongdabong and Mailag.
It said the whirlwind stemmed from a thunderstorm.
National Grid Corporation of the Philippines spokesperson Elizabeth Ladaga said the whirlwind toppled two NGCP facilities in the area.
This interrupted power in Malaybalay City and other towns serviced by the Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative (BUSECO) and the First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (FIBECO). — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
