2 killed in wake of Bukidnon floods

Two construction workers were killed in the wake of floods that hit Bukidnon province last Wednesday.

Payloader operator Pedro Cutayan and backhoe operator Ricky Sopas tried to cross a river in a payloader but drowned, GMA Northern Mindanao's Jeik Compo reported.

Both had been working on a road project in Barangay Lingating in Baungon town in Bukidnon, the report said.

"Malakas ang agos ng tubig pero pinilit pa rin nila, pagdating sa gitna dahil sa malakas ang impact ng tubig tumaob ang loader. Silang dalawa hindi na makalabas dahil nakasara talaga ang loader," said their colleague Hadjie Caneto.

The remains of the two victims and the payloader they were in were recovered Thursday.

Families of both fatalities said they hope the fatalities' employers can help them shoulder their burial expenses. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
