Police arrested 14 people, including a former barangay captain, in a raid on an unlicensed slaughterhouse in Bacolod City over the weekend.

Police were acting on a tip that the establishment in Barangay Alijis was slaughtering and roasting pigs, GMA Bacolod's Erwin Nicavera reported on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon."

One of those arrested was Marianito Yelo, a former barangay captain and the owner of the house where the supposed slaughterhouse was operating.

Seized in the operation were 17 slaughtered pigs and equipment for roasting.

Initial investigation showed the slaughterhouse did not have the proper permit or license.

The suspects face charges for violating the Meat Inspection Code and a city ordinance against illegal slaughtering.
