12 members of gang linked to carjacking, drugs nabbed in Cavite raid

Twelve members of the "Payak Gang," a group linked to carjacking and drug pushing activities, were arrested after police raided their hideouts in Bacoor City in Cavite province Wednesday evening.

Among those arrested was the gang leader initially identified as Arland Gahisan a.k.a. Payak, GMA News' Vonne Aquino reported on "Unang Balita."

Recovered during the raid were 10 stolen motorcycles, four handguns, a grenade and 10 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), the report said.

"Apparently pagka-carnap nila ng motorcycle, dinadala nila sa Bacoor. Pagdala ng carnapped motorcycle dito sa Payak, nagbabayad sila ng cash na P3,000 then shabu yung balance. Parang masasabi mong palit bato," said Cavite police chief Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel.

Police raided the gang's hideout at Barangay Molino II in Bacoor City past 6 p.m.

They learned of the hideout after two suspected gang members arrested in a separate operation last Nov. 3 provided them information about it.

For Wednesday's operation, police arranged a sting operation where an undercover police agent pretended to buy a stolen motorcycle.

The arrested gang members face charges of carnapping, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
