The blessing of a mass grave in Leyte and a march to raise awareness for climate change kicked off on Saturday morning the activities marking the first year after super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
In Palo town in Leyte, Palo Archbishop John Du presided over the blessing of a mass grave where victims of Yolanda are buried.
A photo posted by GMA Cebu's Nikko Sereno on the Facebook page of GMA Cebu's "Buena Mano Balita" showed residents gathered at the mass grave, located at the back of the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Palo was among the areas hit hardest by Yolanda, which devastated the Visayas one year ago. Yolanda left more than 6,000 dead.
In Tacloban City, meanwhile, participants of a walk to raise awareness about climate change entered the city proper, radio dzBB's Rodil Vega reported.
The participants had been walking for 40 days, the report added.
