Dengue claimed the life of a six-year-old boy in Pasuquin town in Ilocos Norte over the weekend.

The boy's father said the child had had a fever for three days before dying Sunday, GMA News TV's "News TV Live" reported Sunday.

According to the boy's father, the boy also felt pain in the knees and stomach.

He was brought to a local hospital after his fever got worse and was later brought to a bigger hospital but succumbed to dengue.

The boy is the second to die of dengue in Ilocos Norte, where 800 cases have been reported since January.

Health officials consider dengue a year-round threat. They have advised residents to keep their surroundings clean and dry to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
