Tacloban Airport prepares to resume operations despite damage from Ruby

The Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City has started preparing for commercial flights after Tropical Storm Ruby (Hagupit) bore down on Eastern Visayas over the weekend.

The airport was still undergoing renovation from the damage brought about by super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last year, with preparations ongoing as well for the upcoming visit of Pope Francis.

The typhoon, however, did further damage on the airport, with the roof opening up and the ceiling at the departure area collapsing.

After canceling flights to Tacloban this past weekend, flag carrier Philippine Airlines said it was expecting to resume flights on Tuesday to "allow for the unhampered relief operations to the city."
