An 11-year-old boy may be welcoming the New Year in a painful way, after he lost his right hand to a piccolo-based explosive, a television report said Thursday.
The incident occurred in Pasuquin town after the boy and his friends made an improvised explosive out of powder from a piccolo and small stones, GMA Ilocos reported.
He said they put the stones and powder in a bottle, then lit it with a piccolo stick.
"Sinindihan namin at agad na sumabog," said the boy, adding they used seven piccolos.
Only one finger was left of the boy's right hand.
The boy was also injured in the leg.
The incident prompted the provincial health office to remind the public against using fireworks to welcome the New Year. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
