At least 20 people were confirmed dead in a landslide that hit five barangays in Catbalogan City in Samar Tuesday following days of rains brought by tropical storm Seniang.
According to a report aired on GMA News TV's "Balitanghali", 20 bodies have already been retrieved from the landslide site, based on the record of Catbalogan City government.
Meanwhile, rescue and retrieval operations for the remaining three residents believed to be trapped in the rubbles and mud resumed Thursday morning after operations were stalled on Wednesday due to heavy rain.
Eight more residents injured in the incident are still in the hospital, the report said.
According to the city government, the site had earlier been declared a danger zone and that the resident were advised to evacuate.
The report, however, said that forced evacuation was not implemented by the local government as it prioritized the evacuation of those living near the Antiao River. — Elizabeth Marcelo/JDS, GMA News
