2 killed in explosion near Capiz school –report
Two people were killed, one of them a Grade II pupil, in a explosion in Pontevedra town in Capiz province shortly after noon Monday.
One of the fatalities was a nine-year-old pupil hit by shrapnel, RGMA Iloilo's Melinda Catahay reported on dzBB radio at past noon on Monday.
The other was the suspect who was carrying the explosive in a backpack.
Capiz provincial police director Sr. Supt. Ulysees Caton identified the grade school pupil who died as nine-year-old as Trina Rose Damayo.
He said 15 others—14 of them students—suffered minor injuries.
Initial investigation showed the incident occurred shortly after noon, 60 to 80 meters from the school in the barangay.
A man reportedly carrying explosives got off a bus in the area, and a loud explosion was heard.
The report said the man's body was shattered as a result of the explosion. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
